1. Open a web-hosting account. This is how you'll get your
website name ("www.yourt-shirtbusinessname.com"). There are many
web hosting services to choose from. Many services require you to
pay a whole year up front to get the "best price". Personally I
preferr to stick with the web hosting service that bill you on a month
to month basis.
2. Submit your web site to all the search engines. By
submitting
your website to the search engines, people can know that you are out
there selling your t-shirt designs. When you go to a search
engine's search box, type a search like "add URL to (search engine
name) " & that will take you to that page where you can add your
website. Once you submit your URL , you need to wait a few
weeks or months before you see you website appear in the search engine
search results. In the mean time, get some books on "SEO" or Search
Engine Optimization. Learn all you can about meta tags & keywords to promote your website.
3. E-mail all your family & friends. Tell them
about your website, ask them to purchase t-shirts or products from your
website & have them tell their friends too. Be sure to avoid
sending unsolicited e-mails (SPAM) to people you don't
know. It's best to network with other people & get
their permission to send them e-mails or newsletters about your website.
4. Inexpensive offline promotion. My favorite offline
promotion is to have business cards to give away. Business cards
can be made at home on your computer. Give your business card to
people you meet everyday. Give them a brief summary about your
business & products. When communicating to others in writing,
be sure that your business name & website information is on
the letter head. Be your own promoter by
wearing your t-shirt design!
5. Give away some of your products. I still find this as an
inexpensive way to advertise vs. traditional paid advertising.
People like to get things for free! In exchange, the recipient can be your advertiser. Be
sure that the product you give away has your website address on
there. Give away t-shirts, hats, bumper stickers or which ever
you feel will be the best product with the best impact.
Keep up the good work & best of luck to your new t-shirt website business!
